Recently,
streaming services like Netflix and Amazon have been scouring the festival
markets for distribution and potential Oscar pushes. Though Netflix hasn’t had
any success yet, the latter did distribute Manchester
by the Sea last year and now has another potential festival hit on their
hands with Landline, and we have the
trailer for you below.
Landline is the latest collaboration
between Jenny Slate and director, Gillian Robespierre who worked together
previously for Obvious Child. The
1995-set dramedy is about a young woman and her sister whose life turns upside
down when discovering that their father may be having an affair. This leads to
shenanigans, self-discovery and tons of complications in their lives. This
movie looks a bit all over the place and though I love all of the talent
involved, I hope it winds up being a better movie than the trailer puts on
display. The movie was mixed at Sundance by critics so we’ll have to wait and
see for ourselves.
Check
out the trailer below for Landline!
The movie stars Jenny Slate, Abby Quinn, John Turturro, Edie Falco and Jay
Duplass. Landline hits theaters on
July 21st, look for it to hit Amazon for streaming quickly after as
well.
