Though
Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The Lego
Movie, 21 Jump Street) recently exited the Untitled Han Solo Star Wars Anthology
Film but their other project, the animated Spider-Man movie is chugging along
with even more actors being added to the voice cast. According to The
Tracking Board, Oscar-winner, Mahershala Ali and Brian Tyree Henry have
joined the cast.
Mahershala
Ali will voice Miles Morales’ uncle, Aaron Davis, who operates on the wrong
side of the law. Brian Tyree Henry will voice Miles’ detective father,
Jefferson Davis. Though Lord and Miller won’t direct this movie, they wrote and
will produce it together while Bob Persichetti (The Little Prince) and Peter Ramsey (Rise of the Guardians) will direct. Miles Morales will be the star
of this movie, the half-black, half-Latino teenager who adopts the costume as
Spider-Man after Peter Parker dies. I’m a big fan of both of these actors and
what they’ve been doing recently so this is great news to me.
Ali
won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar this past year for his role in Moonlight, which also won Best Picture.
He also appeared in Hidden Figures,
another Best Picture nominee and will appear in Alita: Battle Angel and Triple
Frontier in 2018. Brian Tyree Henry also had a huge year last year with his
role in FX’s, Atlanta and has been
racking up film roles as of late. He’ll appear in White Boy Rick and Steve McQueen’s Widows, both set to arrive in 2018.
