After
losing two entertainment stars in the last two days, it’s sad to report that
today there was yet another death as Oscar-nominated French actress, Emmanuelle
Riva has passed away at the age of 89 after a long battle with cancer.
Riva
was a legendary French actress whose career spanned over six decades with her
two most iconic performances essentially bookending her career. She was
nominated for a BAFTA award in 1959 for Hiroshima
Mon Amour and then 53 years later, starred in Michael Haneke’s
Oscar-winning drama, Amour for which
she was nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture at the age of 85. Riva
won the BAFTA and the Cesar acting awards for the her performance in the
latter.
It is
with a heavy heart that all of us at Cinema Wave say Rest in Peace to Emmanuelle
Riva. Our deepest condolences go out to her family, friends and other loved
ones during this tragic time.
