Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway are two Academy Award winning actors that proved that they have great chemistry following their roles in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar. Since then, McConaughey has turned in a legendary performance on TV with True Detective and also garnered Oscar buzz for his roles following Dallas Buyers Club. Since Hathaway’s Oscar win for Les Miserables back in 2013, she’s worked with Nolan, Nancy Meyers and continued her role in the Alice in Wonderland franchise. Now, according to Deadline, McConaughey and Hathaway are in talks to reunite for the noir, Serenity.

Serenity is a mysterious project that tells the tale of a fishing boat captain whose past is about to come back to fruition following him crashing into a small island in the Caribbean. The movie will be directed by Steven Knight who previously directed the critically acclaimed feature, Locke that starred Tom Hardy. He’s also wrote and directed TV dramas Peaky Blinders and Taboo, both of which also star Hardy. Knight will also write the film, as he’s been nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for Dirty Pretty Things. His most recent writing credits include Burnt and Robert Zemeckis’ Allied as well.

McConaughey’s most recent film, Gold was just released wide in theaters yesterday, while he’s also had voice roles in Sing and the Oscar-nominated, Kubo and the Two Strings. He’ll be seen next in the Stephen King adapted, The Dark Tower. Hathaway will be seen next in the sci-fi action film Colossal and in the female ensemble, Ocean’s Eight in 2018.
