Less
than a week after celebrating his 77th birthday, it makes us sad to
say here at Cinema Wave that award-winning actor John Hurt has passed away. He
passed away late last night after a battle against pancreatic cancer in which
he was diagnosed back in 2015.
Hurt
began acting in 1962 at the age of 22 but it was the 70s in which his career
really took off. He starred in a mini-series I, Claudius and landed an Oscar nomination just two years later for
Midnight Express. It was after that
where Hurt became more of a known actor for appearing in Ridley Scott’s horror
classic, Alien and then getting a
second Oscar nomination for playing John Merrick in David Lynch’s The Elephant Man. As the years went on,
Hurt continued to have massive roles in big-time movies throughout the
remainder of his career appearing in films like 1984, Contact, Hellboy, V for Vendetta, the Harry Potter franchise, Tinker
Tailor Soldier Spy and Snowpiercer.
John
Hurt’s final roles include That Good
Night, Damascus Cover, My Name Is Lenny and Joe Wright’s Darkest Hour, in which he’ll play
Neville Chamberlain opposite Gary Oldman’s Winston Churchill.
Rest
in Peace to John Hurt, a fantastic 2-time Oscar nominated actor. Our deepest
condolences go out to her family, friends and other loved ones during this
tragic time.
