Damien Chazelle was able to create a cinematic achievement with his last film, La La Land that might very well take Best Picture at this year’s Academy Awards. His direction was impeccable but in addition to that, the actors shined in their roles especially the leads Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. According to Collider, Chazelle will be teaming up again with Gosling for his next film titled First Man.

First Man will follow the astronaut, Neil Armstrong and his time in the NASA space program from 1961 to 1969 when he became the first man to walk on the moon. Chazelle said to THR that “the goal is to explore the sacrifices and the cost on Armstrong and on the nation of one of the most dangerous missions in history.” I think Gosling will be terrific in the role and though its referred to as a biopic, the screenwriter, Josh Singer (Spotlight, The West Wing) says it is a “mission movie.” The movie will be based on James Hansen’s book, First Man: A Life of Neil A. Armstrong.

Gosling had a great year between La La Land and his co-starring role in Shane Black’s The Nice Guys but he’s going to star in his biggest movie yet at the end of this year and that is Blade Runner 2049. The actor recently wrapped on the sequel to a cult classic co-starring Harrison Ford who starred in the original film in 1982. Production for First Man is expected to happen next year.
