Ever
since it was announced last year that Jonah Hill would be making his
directorial debut, it’s been an intriguing project. Now, he has an
Oscar-nominated actress in the lead to get the film moving along sooner than
expected. According to The
Playlist, Michelle Williams has signed up to star in Mid-90s.
Hill’s
first foray into feature filmmaking will follow a 12 year-old named Stevie who
is involved in the skateboarding scene in the mid-1990s while dealing with his
surroundings of drugs, drinking, sex and more. A coming of age film that sounds
like Lords of Dogtown meets Dazed and Confused in the 90s sounds
like a terrific movie that I’m excited to see. Williams will play Stevie’s
mother in the film and mega producer Scott Rudin has signed on produce the
project.
Michelle
Williams was just nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Manchester by the Sea. She has a busy
2017 slate as she’s signed on to Todd Haynes’ follow-up to Carol, titled Wonderstruck.
Also, she’ll appear in the P.T. Barnum biopic, The Greatest Showman. Mid-90s
will be released at some point in 2018 with a production date in June. A24 has
picked up the rights and I’ll be first in line to see this!
