Jason
Mitchell had a remarkable turn as Eazy E in Straight
Outta Compton just last year. He sort of came out of nowhere but has been
getting cast in some interesting projects since. Today, he was cast in a new TV
series from Rick Famuyiwa (Dope)
titled The Chi, per Deadline.
The Chi is set to air on the premium
network, Showtime and it will follows six interrelated chatacters living their
lives on the South Side of Chicago. Mitchell will be Brandon, a young, driven
young man who dreams of opening his own restaurant but is constantly going back
and forth between pushing towards his new life and taking care of his mother
and teenage brother. This sounds like a great series not only for Mitchell but
also Famuyiwa.
Mitchell
just wrapped production on Kathryn Bigelow’s upcoming Detroit Riots movie. He’s
also completed Dee Rees’ Mudbound and
has Kong: Skull Island upcoming in
March.
