Some
sad news in the entertainment world as we report that yesterday, legendary
director Garry Marshall has passed away. His cause of death was complications
of pneumonia following a stroke at a hospital.
Marshall
is best known as the director of Pretty
Woman which jumpstarted Julia Roberts’ unbelievable career. But even more
so, his influence on television sitcoms in the 70s and 80s. Marshall was
responsible for creating shows like The
Odd Couple, Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, Joanie Loves Chachi and of course, Mork and Mindy which was the first
mainstream project that starred the late, great Robin Williams. He also
directed The Princess Diaries which
put Oscar-winning actress Anne Hathaway on the map as well.
Marshall
clearly had an eye for talent but his films had an impact to create a warm,
feel-good tone which had people smiling at the end of his movies and television
shows. Within the last few years, Marshall directed holiday, ensemble movies
like Valentine’s Day, New Year’s Eve and Mother’s Day.
Our
deepest condolences go out to Garry Marshall’s family and friends during this
sad time.
