It
has been said since the release of The
BFG that Spielberg might not have that same ability of filmmaking he had in
the past, but he is still one of the greatest directors in the history of
cinema. After all, last year his latest drama, Bridge of Spies was nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars.
Though it wasn’t able to take home the big prize, his supporting actor Mark
Rylance walked away with an award and since then, he has joined two other
Spielberg projects including The
Kidnapping of Edgardo Montara.
According
to The
Playlist, Oscar Isaac is set to join Rylance in the film. Isaac has quickly
become one of the best actors around today working with big name directors like
The Coen Brothers and JJ Abrams, as well as up and coming directors like Alex
Garland and JC Chandor. Though he’s now known around the world as Poe Dameron
in the Star Wars universe, he is one
of the actors that could reach that upper echelon of talent in the coming
years.
The
film is set in 1858 and is about a young Jewish boy who is taken from his home,
raised Catholic and then becomes a priest. This isn’t the type of hard hitting
subject matter that is foreign to Spielberg as he’s tackled other films like Munich and Schindler’s List in the past. The plan is for the director to
finish filming Ready Player One and
then start The Kidnapping of Edgardo
Montara in early 2017. It is expected to be released around awards season
as well.
Oscar
Isaac will be seen next in Alex Garland’s next film, Annihilation after working with him previously on the wonderful, Ex Machina. Also, he’s cast alongside
Christian Bale in The Promise and
even has a part in the ensemble film Suburbicon
directed by George Clooney.
