With
the current state of the Hollywood movie industry, it’s always been about
expansion and being bigger, an example of this in the last few years have been
these “movie extended universes”. We have it with superhero films, Harry Potter
films, but Universal is attempting to create a monster movie-verse and the
casting has been filled with star power. Tom Cruise, Russell Crowe and Johnny
Depp are just some of the names who have been cast in their modern remakes of
the classic horror properties but today we have news from Variety
reporting that Javier Bardem is being eyed to play Frankenstein as Dr. Victor Frankenstein’s resurrected monster, not
the doctor himself.
In
seems that Bardem might also appear in another monster movie earlier on,
possibly The Mummy which is about to
wrap. As like in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, characters of the monster
movie-verse are expected to appear in separate films other than their own.
Other films within the expected movie-verse are The Mummy which we touched upon earlier which will star Tom Cruise
as Tyler Colt, Sofia Boutella as the Mummy and Russel Crowe as Dr. Henry
Jekyll. That film will be released on June 9th, 2017.
Along
with that, elsewhere there is The
Invisible Man which is set to star Johnny Depp in the title role and will
be released on April 13th, 2018. With all these exciting monster
movies coming out, it’s hard to keep up so we’ll be sure to keep you in line
with all news about Universal’s new spooky universe.
