Alicia Vikander has been one of the hottest stars of 2015/16 between her fantastic portrayal of Ava in Ex Machina but especially for her Oscar winning role as Gerda Wegener, the spouse of the first man to become a woman in The Danish Girl. It is because of these meaty roles that Vikander has been cast as Lara Croft in Warner Bros./MGM’s Tomb Raider reboot.

Today, Deadline reports that Tomb Raider will be released on March 16th, 2018. The movie follows Lara Croft, a young and inexperienced woman goes on her first adventure. The film is set to be directed Roar Uthaug who helmed the recent international hit, The Wave.

The first Tomb Raider film starred Angelina Jolie back in 2001 and did great in the box office making $274.7 million. Vikander will be seen next in Jason Bourne alongside Matt Damon, Julia Stiles and Tommy Lee Jones at the end of the month. After that, she’ll be in Derek Cianfrance’s (Blue Valentine, The Place Beyond the Pines) The Light Between Oceans with her current boyfriend Michael Fassbender and Rachel Weisz.
