I
apologize for not posting a review for episode 5, but I’m back to review
episode 6 of AMC’s newest series, Preacher.
This week’s episode begins right where episode 5 left off with Jesse Custer
sitting with Fiore and DeBlanc in the diner asking for him to give up his
powers. We find out quickly that what is inside of Custer aren’t supernatural
powers but something called Genesis. According to the angels from heaven (Fiore
and DeBlanc), Genesis is a “baby” formed by an angel and a devil that were in
love. Also, Fiore and DeBlanc are being hunted by the Seraphim, the highest
order of angels which is evident when one of them is in disguise as a blonde
woman while hunting down the three men with powers similar to that of a robot.
This continues even as Cassidy joins in on the fun. This pretty much sums up
how violent and chaotic this show could be and I absolutely love it.
Jesse
is exposed very much within this week’s installment; whether it’s Miles talking
to the preacher about the murders he witnessed by Odin in last week’s episode
or when Custer told Eugene to go to hell and then he vanishes. Custer has
recently paraded around doing what he now has the ability to do and it seems
like a façade to his duty as the preacher of Annville. This is good news going
forward though as the supporting characters are starting to notice and take
offense/action towards the preacher’s hypocrisy.
We
also had great moments between Tulip and Emily in episode six. Tulip bursts
into Emily’s house screaming at the single mother “Stay away from my boyfriend!”
after encountering Emily in Jesse’s house last episode, she must’ve thought
they were an item. This leads to Tulip flinging one of Emily’s daughter’s art “things”
at the wall breaking it. Now feeling guilty, Tulip comes back and offers to fix
it. The two female characters bond which leads to the mostly confrontational
Tulip helping Emily with chores for the church’s mass on Sunday.
Week
by week, I am more and more interested in these characters and their own
stories within Preacher. This week
was no different as we find out more about Genesis and the potential downward
spiral Jesse is going through.
