One
of the biggest surprises of last year had to be the western crime film, Hell or High Water. The indie darling
that starred Chris Pine and Ben Foster as brothers robbing banks across West
Texas to save their family’s ranch. The acting by these two (and Jeff Bridges)
is terrific but the direction by David Mackenzie as well as the screenplay by
Taylor Sheridan helped propel the movie to Oscar worthy success. It seems three
fourths of this magnificent team will be reuniting as Deadline
reports that Mackenzie will direct Pine and Foster in Outlaw King for Netflix.
Outlaw King is a period drama about the
Scottish king, Robert the Bruce (played by Pine) and his battle against the
English as well as his romantic affair with Irish noble, Elizabeth de Burgh. No
details yet on who will play de Burgh but Foster will play Pine’s chief
advisor, James Douglas in the film. It’s definitely a change of pace for all
three involved but is said to be a passion project for Mackenzie who has turned
down a number of big jobs for the movie including a project called The Brotherhood that would’ve starred
Michael Fassbender and Margot Robbie.
Outlaw King will begin filming in August
and is said to be releasing on Netflix in 2018. Pine can be seen in Wonder Woman on June 2nd and
also just wrapped on Ava DuVernay’s A
Wrinkle in Time set to hit theaters on March 9th, 2018. Foster
can be seen later this year alongside Christian Bale and Rosamund Pike in Scott
Cooper’s Hostiles.
What
do you guys think about the next project from the Hell or High Water team? Do you think Pine and Foster can pull off
the Scottish accents? Let us know below in the comments!
