The
man who brought us the remarkable Marvel team-up that is currently the 5th
highest-grossing of all-time, The Avengers
is headed to the other side. That’s
right, Variety
reports that Joss Whedon (The Avengers,
Avengers: Age of Ultron) will write, direct and produce passion project, Batgirl for Warner Bros. and the DCEU.
The
most popular iteration of Batgirl would be Barbara Gordon who was first
introduced in the comics as a sidekick to Batwoman back in 1967 but according
to Collider,
it appears that Whedon will be adapting the New 52 rebooted version of Barbara
Gordon in the suit years after she was shot in the spine by The Joker in the
comic, Batman: The Killing Joke. It’s
also said that the project will feature plenty of other characters from the
world of Gotham which is likely to include Ben Affleck’s Batman, Jared Leto’s
version of The Joker, Nightwing
(which is currently in development) and members of the Gotham City Sirens (also in development). Whedon has been wanting
to headline a female-driven superhero flick for years and it’s a great sign for
the DCEU to bring in a director who has already directed two great comic book
movies in his career. Now, for the fancasting; Hailee Steinfeld, Anya Taylor-Joy,
Emma Stone or Zoe Kravitz would be my top choices for the title role.
It
sure will be an interesting take on the character from the mind of Whedon so my
question is, what do you guys want to see from Whedon’s take on Gordon? Who do
you want to see play Batgirl? Comment
below and let us know!
