After
the months long search for a director for Captain
Marvel, it seems that Marvel has hired not one, but two directors to do the
job. According to Variety,
Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Mississippi
Grind, Half Nelson) have nabbed the job of directing the female superhero
film starring Brie Larson.
Boden
and Fleck are just some of the directors in a long search process that included
other directors like Rebecca Thomas (Elecktrick
Children), Niki Caro (Whale Rider),
Leslie Linka Glatter (Homeland),
Jennifer Kent (The Babadook),
Jennifer Yuh (Kung Fu Panda 2) and
Lorene Scafaria (Seeking a Friend for the
End of the World). Though it is a little disheartening knowing that Marvel
brought on a partnership of directors that included a man for a movie they
guaranteed would have a female director, they’re still a very talented and
capable directing team. Half Nelson
led to the first Oscar nomination for Ryan Gosling after all and the pair also
helmed It’s Kind a Funny Story, a
very underrated mental illness dramedy that starred Emma Roberts and Zach
Galifiankis.
Meg
LeFauve (Inside Out) and Nicole
Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) are
currently working on the script for Captain
Marvel. The movie follows Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot whose DNA fused
with an alien during an accident which leads to her getting her superpowers.
Brie Larson headlines the project but no other casting announcements have been
made as of this time.
