It
appears that fans of the long planned live-action Masters of the Universe can
breathe a sigh of relief today. According to EW, McG (Charlie’s Angels, Terminator: Salvation) has left the project he’s
since been attached to since early last year. This has resulted in Sony pushing
the movie back to December 18th, 2018 and now is without a director.
Is it
an issue that the project is now without a director? Of course, but it’s an
issue that likely all are okay with due to the previous director attached. McG
is often regarded as one of the worst directors working today so the
live-action take on the popular He-Man
cartoon will welcome a new face behind the lens. The report also states that
David S. Goyer (Man of Steel, Batman
Begins) will write the script which is good news as the studio searches for
a new director. It’ll be interesting to see who the studio settles on as well
as what approach they take when making this movie; whether it goes a similar
route to that of the recent Teenage
Mutant Ninja Turtles film or get something like a darker toned fantasy
adventure in the vein of a film like Lord
of the Rings.
How
do you guys feel about McG leaving Masters
of the Universe and Sony finally setting a date? Who would you like to see
the studio go after to direct the movie? Comment below and let us know!
