Ang
Lee is one of the most diverse filmmakers in history with no genre limiting his
abilities. The two-time Oscar winning director has tackled all different types
of movies such as The Wedding Banquet,
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Brokeback Mountain, Life of Pi and most
recently, Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk.
It seems that the innovative director wants to move towards science fiction for
his next project as Variety
reports that Lee is in talks to direct Gemini
Man.
The
sci-fi actioner follows a senior NSA official who is being chased by a young
clone of himself before retiring from the agency. It sounds to be in the same
realm as a movie like Rian Johnson’s Looper
and with a mind like Ang Lee headlining, it could be a perfect team-up. David
Benioff (Game of Thrones, 25th
Hour) has written the script for the movie that has been in development for
decades now. The late, Curtis Hanson was attached before Tony Scott was
supposed to be the director to save the project. Now, Lee is said to be the guy
for the job. This isn’t completely concrete however as the studio is in early
discussions to get Lee for the job.
The
director was scheduled to tackle a boxing film covering the Thrilla in Manila with Ray Fisher and
David Oyelowo as Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier respectively but it appears that
project might’ve hit a snag. What do you guys think of Ang Lee’s potential next
project? Is Gemini Man the right
movie for him to tackle next? Comment below and let us know your thoughts!
