I would
like to start by saying that SPOILERS are in effect for
this post if you haven’t seen Unbreakable
or Split. M. Night Shyamalan, the
fascinating director behind both of those films has announced on his Twitter
that confirms that his next feature, Glass
will be the third in the shared cinematic universe.
Shyamalan
rose to fame in 1999 with The Sixth Sense
and had major success for years before going on a cold streak unlike many
directors have had. Miraculously, he’s risen out of the swamp that he put
himself in with his two most recent movies, The
Visit and Split, which I enjoyed
thoroughly and you can find the review here.
There was an appearance by Bruce Willis at the end of Split which alluded to the fact that the movie exists in the same
series of movies but more details have emerged thanks to Shyamalan.
His
tweets reveal that Glass will be a sequel to both Unbreakable AND Split.
The movie will star Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, James McAvoy and Anya
Taylor-Joy who will all return for their respective roles. The movie will be
released by Universal Pictures on January 18th, 2019. I’m incredibly
excited to see this and believe that if Shyamalan’s succeeds with this flick,
he can return to the prominence he had before disasters like The Last Airbender and After Earth.
What
do you guys think about the announcement for Glass? Do you think this could be the return to form for M. Night
Shyamalan? Sound off in the comments below!
