I was
a huge fan of computer games when I was a young kid with one of my favorites
being the Where in the World is Carmen
Sandiego? The educational but fun game is now being adapted into an
animated series for Netflix, per The
Tracking Board. Jane the Virgin’s
Gina Rodriguez is set to voice the title character of the series that launches
in 2019.
The
series is the industry’s second attempt at an animated show for the character
as the original aired from 1994-1999 before being cancelled after 4 seasons. Finn
Wolfhard from Stranger Things will
also have a voice role as Player, Carmen’s chief accomplice and friend. The
show’s first season will have 20 episodes of 22-minutes each and will be “as
educational as it is entertaining”. I think this is a great idea for an
educational animated program to be geared for kids through Netflix. Also,
Rodriguez has a perfect voice for a role like this and even at my age, I’m
interested to see what they can do with this show.
Gina
Rodriguez has quite the busy schedule and is constantly adding more to her
slate as our source also says that she’s currently deciding between an action
vehicle, Miss Bala and comedy, Fire Me. Confirmed projects on her slate
include animated films The Star and Ferdinand. She’ll be seen on screen next
in Alex Garland’s follow-up to Ex Machina,
sci-fi film Annihilation that also
stars Natalie Portman and Oscar Isaac.
