One
movie that I’m incredibly excited for is Aaron Sorkin’s directorial debut, Molly’s Game that is set to be released
later next year. It’s not surprising that the Academy Award winning writer has
already assembled Jessica Chastain, Idris Elba and Michael Cera to star in the
film but according to The
Playlist, he’s also added some great supporting roles as well.
Kevin
Costner, Chris O’Dowd, Brian d’Arcy James, Jeremy Strong and Bill Camp have
joined the cast and bolstered the movie to what can be categorized now as an
acting showcase. Costner, many people know as a former Oscar winner who
directed, produced and starred Dances
with Wolves and O’Dowd has become a rising star as an actor not only for
his roles in Calvary, St. Vincent and
The Program but also being nominated
for a Tony Award as Lennie Small in the Broadway show, Of Mice and Men. Strong and d’Arcy James had large supporting roles
in Oscar-winning movies from last year The
Big Short and Spotlight. Camp
played Detective Box in the HBO limited series, The Night Of.
Molly’s Game is an adaptation of the
book by Molly Bloom that tells the true story of how an athlete and law student
ran an exclusive high-stakes, celebrity attended poker game that also included
members of the Russian mafia. This sounds like a hell of a premise and even
potential Oscar bait for the writer of The
Social Network and Moneyball. Keep an eye out for this project for sure
next year.
