It
seemed that Fox was in pretty good shape with their superhero universe after
the release of the R-rated, Deadpool
which shocked everyone. I even have it currently, in my top 5 films of the
year, having said that, X-Men: Apocalypse
was a huge disappointment. After X-Men: Days
of Future Past, which was one of my favorites of 2014, Apocalypse just didn’t strike the same chord as its predecessor. It
is shocking however, to get news from The
Hollywood Reporter that their X-Men universe will be going under some
changes.
The
contracts of stars Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and
Nicholas Hoult who play Mystique, Magneto, Professor X and Beast respectively
have come to an end. Because of this, the studio has decided that they’re going
to “reconfigure” the property, Simon Kinberg will return to write the script
Bryan Singer who has directed four of the X-Men films will be finished with the
franchise. The most surprising part of this report though is that the studio is
holding a flicker of hope that they could possibly recruit their main stars
again. This would be tough to do not only because their rise in fame has made
their potential payment higher than ever but Lawrence especially has been vocal
that she isn’t pleased with the number of hours the makeup takes for her
character.
These
obviously aren’t the only issues within the X-Men cinematic universe as
Deadpool 2 lost its director and composer recently over creative differences.
Also, the long-developing Gambit
movie that is set to star Channing Tatum is currently on hold as he finishes
shooting Steven Soderbergh’s Logan Lucky.
That film hasn’t had the easiest road to production either as Rupert Wyatt and
Doug Liman have both dropped out. The next film they plan on getting into
production on though is New Mutants
which could start filming in the Spring.
What
do you guys think about the soft reboot ahead for Fox and the X-Men? Will Deadpool
become the new central character when Hugh Jackman exits as Wolverine or will
they give it to someone else? Comment below and let us know!
