It’s
been just about a month since we reported that Johnny Depp would join LAbyrinth which follows the detective
who investigated the murders of both Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. This was
already an interesting premise and first casting news but the project continues
to accumulate talent. According to Slash Film,
Forest Whitaker is set to join Depp in the movie as well.
Production
starts this month on LAbyrinth, which
is based on the novel of the same name written by Randall Sullivan. Depp is set
to play the detective and Whitaker is joining the movie as a journalist that
joins Depp to help seek out answers to the murders of two of the biggest icons
in rap music history. Whitaker has already had a big year as he just had a
supporting role in a movie that is being pegged as an Oscar favorite by many
critics in Arrival. The movie is set
to be directed by Brad Furman who previously directed The Lincoln Lawyer and The
Infiltrator.
Whitaker’s
year is far from over as he will appear in the Star Wars spinoff, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Not only
that, he also recently signed on to join the MCU and have a role in Black Panther in 2018. I love this
casting as it’s just adding more talent onto an intriguing project. There is no
set release date though expect to see this released sometime next year!
