Katherine
Waterston has rapidly become one of the rising stars of Hollywood. Within the
last few years she’s worked with directors like Paul Thomas Anderson and Danny
Boyle and now she’s signed on to a very enticing project. According to Deadline,
Waterston has signed on to star in The
Current War alongside Benedict Cumberbatch.
This
is a movie that I’ve already been very excited about for many reasons. With
Waterston being added to the movie it now boasts a tremendous cast that
includes Cumberbatch, Michael Shannon and Nicholas Hoult. In addition, Sienna
Miller is also in talks to join the movie as well. The Current War takes place in the late 1880s and revolves around
George Westinghouse (played by Shannon) and his rival Thomas Edison (played by
Cumberbatch) as they battle to create electricity and promote it to the United
States. The movie will be directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon and he directed my
favorite movie of last year, Me and Earl
and the Dying Girl, so I’d be on board with whatever he’s directing next
but this seems to be a great next project for him.
Waterston
had a breakout role in Inherent Vice
and has since starred in Steve Jobs
and is set to star alongside Eddie Redmayne in the Harry Potter spinoff, Fantastic
Beasts and Where to Find Them. In addition to her joining this movie, she’s
also set to work some more notable filmmakers in Steven Soderbergh’s Logan Lucky and Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant.
