The
DC Cinematic Universe is not off to the best start and it might be skidding
towards another disappointment with this bit of news. According to THR,
Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), who was set to
direct The Flash has left the project
due to creative differences.
This
is massive news because this means that the project has already gone through
two directors and isn’t looking good for the foreseeable future. THR reports
that “sources say that the Dope
director’s vision of making a movie with more edge clashed with the studio’s
take.” This could be a huge potential problem for the studio signing filmmakers.
It seems that they might be limiting their respective director’s vision since
the backlash that came with the directors of their first two films, Zack Snyder,
who directed Batman v. Superman: Dawn of
Justice and David Ayer, Suicide Squad.
This could mean that DC is wanting to make a lighter toned film which we’ve
seen is evident within the trailer for Justice
League.
This
is also interesting because Famuyiwa helped oversee the casting of Ezra Miller’s
co-stars Kiersey Clemons and Billy Crudup who were cast as Iris West and Barry
Allen’s father, respectively. We’ll have to see what DC Studios decides to do
but I have to say I’m disappointed that Famuyiwa has left as I loved what he
did with Dope and it’s hard to not be
concerned with how the studio can’t get on the same page with their filmmakers
going forward.
