With
the recent uptick in viewership with new shows like Goliath and Good Girls Revolt,
Amazon has quickly risen to the top of the streaming empire. With the addition
of a new show from the creator of Mad Men and now a new project, it seems that
they could soon be on even ground with Netflix. According to Deadline,
Amazon has acquired the upcoming drama series from written and directed by
David O. Russell and starring Robert De Niro and Julianne Moore. Not only that
but the streaming service has given the show a two-season commitment for $160
million. Each season will be eight episodes and though details are scarce as of
now, it appears to be a crime/mafia show.
This
is incredibly exciting news as Russell has quickly become one of the best
directors in the industry today. The director has previously worked with De
Niro in Silver Linings Playbook and Joy, but this is his first time working
with the Oscar-winning Moore. Silver
Linings Playbook, The Fighter and
American Hustle are all within my
favorite movies of the decade thus far and seeing Russell make the transition to
the small screen like so many other filmmakers as of late (Woody Allen, Steven
Soderbergh, Cary Fukunaga) makes me giddy about this project.
De
Niro will be seen next in the HBO movie, Wizard
of Lies in which he’ll play the leader of the Ponzi scheme, Bernie Madoff.
Moore is set to be in Todd Haynes’ upcoming film, Wonderstruck alongside Michelle Williams and Oakes Fegley.

more news of the upcoming Amazon crime/drama is available, we’ll have that info
