Though
I’ve never watched anything Star Trek
related, I’ve always been interested in the property. One day, I’ll get around
to watching some sort of Star Trek
whether it be the original series and films or the recent incarnations that
star Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto. It also could be, the upcoming CBS series Star Trek: Discovery which will bring
the franchise back to television. According to Collider,
Doug Jones and Anthony Rapp were added to the cast that already had cast
Michelle Yeoh.
Yeoh
will star in the series as Captain Georgiou, the Starfleet Captain aboard the
Starship Shenzhou. Alongside her, Doug Jones, who is best known for playing
these remarkable physical and transformative roles like Pale Man in Pan’s Labyrinth and Abe Sapien in the Hellboy franchise will co-star. He’ll be
playing Lt. Saru, the main Starfleet Science Officer who is also a brand new
alien species in the Star Trek
universe. Also, Anthony Rapp who is best known for his role as Mark Cohen in Rent will portray the Star Trek universe’s first gay
character, Lt. Stamets who is a astromycologist and fungus expert.
With
these two additions, it makes me incredibly excited to see what CBS can do with
this series. These are impressive castings and if these continue, I’ll
definitely be watching this show the night it premieres.
