It is
quite a sad day if you were one of the people holding out a bit of hope for The Inhumans movie. According to Collider,
Marvel seems to be taking the route of television for the assembled superhero
team and it’ll air on ABC. This makes so much sense as The Inhumans have become a staple on the first Marvel TV series, Agents of SHIELD which is now in its
fourth season and is currently featuring an iconic Marvel hero, Ghost Rider.
The Inhumans has been a bit of a passion
project for Kevin Feige as it was originally slated for Phase Three of the MCU
but the constantly evolving schedule has pushed it off the slate in entirety as
a feature film. An interesting tidbit though about this news is that Marvel
also said that the first two episodes will screen in IMAX theaters nationwide
as it will be filmed entirely on IMAX cameras. It will begin a theatrical run
at the beginning of September before moving into ABC’s fall line-up.
The Inhumans was created in 1965 by Stan
Lee and Jack Kirby and follows a hybrid human-Kree race of superpowered
mutants, each of whom has their own signature power to restore an evolutionary
equilibrium. The TV series is expected to dive deeper into their story than Agents of SHIELD did as it “will explore
the never-before-told epic adventure of Black Bolt and the royal family” according
to the press release.
I’m
excited that this property is finally coming to screens but I hold further
excitement until the cast starts to assemble. There were rumors that Vin Diesel
will play Black Bolt and personally I’m not a big fan of anything he does other
than his voice work and he’s already cast in the MCU as the voice of Groot so I
wouldn’t be a fan but hey, who knows what’ll happen.
