It’s
been a little while since we’ve seen a Martin Scorsese directed movie in
theaters. Last time was the enthralling film, The Wolf of Wall Street starring Leonardo DiCaprio, but it seems
the legendary director has gone a completely different direction with his new
movie, Silence and we have the first trailer for you right here.
The
movie follows two Jesuit priests (played by Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver) go
on a journey to find their mentor (played by Liam Neeson) in 17th century
Japan. Throughout their trek to find Neeson’s character, they’re mistreated
completely due to their religious beliefs. The movie is based on the novel by
Shusaku Endo and the script was written by Jay Cocks who previously
collaborated with Scorsese for Gangs of
New York.
This
looks to be a surefire candidate for the Academy Awards including Best Picture.
It’s an amazing trailer and has sweeping cinematography though I don’t love
large scale religious epics like this one, I love Martin Scorsese’s work and
plan to see this in theaters. Here’s an amazing little tidbit: Since Gangs of New York, only one
Scorsese-directed project hasn’t been nominated for Best Picture (Shutter Island). That’s pretty
remarkable.
Check out the trailer for Silence below. The movie opens in theaters on December 23rd.
