Well
here’s a film that’s incredibly timely. In regards to last year’s OscarsSoWhite
campaign, there was not one person of color or minority nominated for an acting
award at the Oscars, but it seems that this January we have a few women who
might be up for that golden trophy. 20th Century Fox released a new trailer
today for Hidden Figures starring
Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae.
Hidden Figures tells the true story of
brilliant African American women working for NASA and the crucial part they
played in launching astronaut John Glenn into space to orbit Earth. The movie
showcases not only their brilliance and efficiency throughout their time
working for the space program but also the discrimination they all faced as
both women and African Americans. It looks to have a great shot at multiple
Oscar categories and I’m looking forward to seeing this when it goes wide in
January.

In addition to the leading ladies, the movie also stars Kevin Costner, Kirsten
Dunst, Jim Parsons and Mahershala Ali. It opens in limited release on Christmas
Day and opens worldwide on January 6th!
