Truly awful news this afternoon as actor Anton
Yelchin, who is best known for playing Chekov in the Star Trek films has died in an accident involving his car early
this morning. He was only 27.
Yelchin
had been known as one of the finer indie actors in the US today. With roles
like Zack Mazursky in Alpha Dog, the
title role in Charlie Bartlett or
even as recent as this year in the film, Green
Room. He was also seen in franchise movies like Star Trek, Terminator Salvation
and the Fright Night remake. His
yet-to-be-released movies include Rememory,
We Don’t Belong Here, Porto and he’ll be soon on July 22nd
in Star Trek Beyond.
The
LAPD has released a statement about his death in which they said that “A fatal
traffic collision happened in Studio City. On Sunday, June 19th at
1:10 A.M., a fatal traffic collision occurred. It was the result of the victim’s
own car rolling backwards down his steep driveway, pinning him against a brick
mailbox pillar and security fence.” It’s truly tragic news to lose such a
talented actor at such a young age.
