Ever since fans saw Tom Holland as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War in the MCU, they’ve been watering at the mouth to see him again. Peter Parker is now in line to be joined by an actor/writer/musician as Deadline reports that Donald Glover is set to join Spider-Man: Homecoming. There are no details on who he will be playing in the movie.

Glover is known for mostly for his role as Troy Barnes in the television show Community, which was created by the directors of Civil War, Joe and Anthony Russo. He was also seen in films like The Martian and Magic Mike XXL in supporting roles and we’ll be seen next in the FX series, Atlanta, which he also wrote and produced. Glover was also handpicked by Tina Fey to write the Emmy-winning series, 30 Rock, when he was only 21 years of age.

The reason this casting news is so significant is due to the fact that Glover campaigned to play the role of Miles Morales, another version of Spidey in the comics in Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man reboot which eventually cast Andrew Garfield as the web-slinger. Is this a sign from Feige, Marvel, Sony and director Jon Watts that Glover will be playing that role? It seems unlikely due to Glover being 32 years old and Tom Holland’s version of Spider-Man is 16 in the MCU, but it still seems like a curious case of casting. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on any more information we get on his role and Spider-Man: Homecoming which will hit theaters, July 7th, 2017.
