It
seemed like it was destined due to the disappointing numbers in the ratings, Vinyl has been cancelled by HBO. The
rock period drama broadcast on the premium network has been shelled after only
one season. The network said in a statement “After careful consideration, we
have decided not to proceed with a second season of Vinyl. Obviously, this was not an easy decision. We have enormous
respect for the creative team and cast for their hard work and passion on this project.”
The
show was produced by legendary director Martin Scorsese (Goodfellas, The Departed)
as well as rock-n-roll legend Mick Jagger. The showrunner Terence Winter, who
previously wrote projects like The
Sopranos and The Wolf of Wall Street
exited Vinyl after the first season
and that just spelled trouble. The show revolved around drug-addicted record
executive Richie Finestra (Bobby Cannavale) in the 1970s in the diverse music
scene. The show also starred Ray Romano, Juno Temple and PJ Byrne.
Though,
I didn’t watch much of the show, I did like what I had seen from the freshman
HBO drama. It’s sad to see a creative original project like this cancelled;
especially when its headed by movie and music legends in their own right.
