We just wrote an article providing you with a trailer
for a festival hit from Cannes, but now we have a trailer for a movie that won
the Grand Jury Prize at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Other winners of
this award include Like Crazy, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Precious and Whiplash. Today, we have for you the trailer for The Birth of a Nation directed, written
and starring Nate Parker.
The
film follows Nat Turner (Parker), a literate slave and preacher who leads an
uprising against his master and others in the antebellum South. The movie looks
incredibly violent and emotional, similar to 2014 Best Picture winner, 12 Years a Slave. You can tell how much
Parker dedicated to this film as it doesn’t shy away from reality or beat
around the bush at all. It also is an Oscar favorite as of the current race and
I believe it’ll be nominated for Best Picture based on the trailers. This is
one of my most anticipated movies of the year.
The Birth of a Nation also stars Armie
Hammer, Aja Naomi King, Penelope Ann Miller, Jackie Earle Haley, Dwight Henry
and Gabrielle Union. The film opens on October 7th.
