The DC Cinematic Universe
kicked off in an interesting way this year with the release of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice this
past March. The movie came out to very mixed reviews and it definitely wasn’t
the result that Warner Bros. wanted to start off with. The second film in the
extended universe is coming out though this August and it was just announced from
Box
Office Mojo that, Suicide Squad
will be released in theaters as PG-13 for sequences of violence and action
throughout, disturbing behavior, suggestive content and language.
Due
to the success of Fox’s Deadpool and
the tone shown through the trailers for Suicide
Squad, it was thought that the film might be rated R. Though it got the
PG-13 rating, it seems that the studio is pushing its boundaries for the film
which makes me very excited. The two most recent trailers utilizing music as a
selling point for its audience with “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Ballroom Blitz” which
led to a more playful tone than the original darker preview.
Suicide Squad is one of the most
anticipated films of the year and it follows a group of recruited imprisoned super villains to execute dangerous missions for a secret government. The movie
stars Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jared Leto as The
Joker and Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg. The ensemble superhero flick will be
released in theaters on August 5th.
