After the first two weeks
featured a lot going on within the Preacher
universe, it seems that episode 3 does a lot more for setting the groundwork
for future episodes this season. The opening features Tulip in present day
Houston where she trades her mysterious map to another woman named Danni for
information about the man that left behind Tulip and Jesse years ago after what
seemed to be a bank robbery gone wrong.
This
episode does a lot more building up the character of Tulip which is great as we
didn’t know much about her and her connection to the preacher in general. The
fact that we now have at least somewhat of an idea of what went on in their
past together is a step in the right direction. Tulip gets to meet up with
Jesse once again in this episode and gets as far to the point where he decides
to go with her until an encounter with Donnie leads to a reawakening for the
preacher.
We
also see a hilarious scene between Cassidy and Custer this week where Jesse is
able to finally showcase his newfound abilities to someone he trusts. The
hysterical affair includes Cassidy admitting that he loves Justin Bieber and
just about anything else that Jesse asks of him (except naming the governor of
Texas because Cass doesn’t know who it is). The tone shifts though as Cassidy
asks Jesse what it feels like to have those special powers to which he
responds, “like all of God’s creation is inside of me”.
Fiore
and DeBlanc return this week as well and after speaking with the sheriff, Hugo
Root, it’s understandable why. After admitting that they’re in the town of
Annville to take out a “suspect at large” so to speak, Root says he’ll stay out
of their way. They plan another attack on the preacher yet, it is Cassidy again
who tries to stop them. They return once more after being run over by his car
and admit to him that they have arrived in town to find Jesse. They admit to
Jesse’s good friend that they came to take the abilities that were given to him
in episode 1.
All
in all, this AMC show continues to impress week by week. Though this week’s
installment is more contained, it sets up a lot of things going forward. With
this episode being titled, “The Possibilities” it seems that is the perfect
name as Jesse remains conflicted with the possibilities his powers offer him.
