Mary Poppins will go down forever as one of the most iconic characters in cinema. Played so wonderfully by Julie Andrews, the film titled after the lead character is one that has inspired many and still continues to do so. Disney has recently announced that there will be a new Mary Poppins film titled, Mary Poppins Returns.

Mary Poppins Returns will star Emily Blunt and “Hamilton” and “In the Heights” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda. The movie is set to be directed by Rob Marshall (Into the Woods, Chicago). Marshall has had plenty of experience with musicals in the past and worked previously with Blunt on Into the Woods.

According to Moviefone, the plot will follow a Poppins (Blunt) and a now-grown Jane and Michael Banks, along with Michael’s three children when they’re surprisingly visited by Poppins following a personal loss. Through her unique magical skills and aid of her street lamplighter friend Jack (Miranda), she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives. It’s important to also note that the film will take place In Depression-era London just as was written in the books.

This sure does sound like a faithful telling and continuation of the legendary Disney film we all know and love. The movie is due to hit theaters on December 25th, 2018.
