There is a new sci-fi book adaptation coming and it’s
about to be headed by a legendary director. According to Collider, Ron Howard
(A Beautiful Mind, Cinderella Man) is attached to direct
the feature adaptation of Seveneves. William
Broyles Jr., who also wrote the Howard directed, Apollo 13 will write the script.
The
novel was released last year and begins with humanity in a dire state as a
catastrophic event makes Earth uninhabitable. The world’s nations then group
together to create a plan to ensure that humanity will survive. This involves
sending pioneers into outer space. The book then jumps 5,000 years into the
future and the pioneers are 3 billion strong, trying to return to Earth.
The
potential for a project of this nature is astounding and adding an
Oscar-winning director like Howard makes it even more exciting. Howard was
originally supposed to direct the upcoming movie, The Dark Tower based on the Stephen King novel but has now stepped
back to a Producer’s role.
The
director has had problems recently with his most recent films, as In the Heart of the Sea was a box office
bomb and though, Rush was a very
underrated film, it didn’t do well in theaters either. Howard’s next project is
Inferno which is a follow up to The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons. Inferno will hit theaters on October 28th.
