With
Cannes Film Festival wrapping up and Netflix making their presence felt there,
one of the films they will be distributing, Okja
just received its first trailer. Bong Joon-ho’s (Snowpiercer, The Host) next feature looks to be an imaginative and
different story than we’ve seen before and I sure am excited to see it on
Netflix at the end of June.
Okja follows Mija, a young girl who must
rescue her best friend, who also happens to be a giant genetically modified
creature that looks like a cross between a pig and a hippo. An international
corporation has kidnapped the titular animal and wants to use it for meat to
sell to millions but Mija works together with a group of animal lovers to
return her best friend to good hands. I absolutely loved this trailer and
though reviews of Cannes have been mixed, I love the comparisons to E.T., it clearly looks like Joon-ho was
inspired by the Spielberg classic. Also, the cast helps put this film over the
top for me as Tilda Swinton and Paul Dano look to steal the movie.
Check
out the trailer for Okja below! The
film stars An Seo Hyun, Tilda Swinton, Paul Dano, Lily Collins, Steven Yeun,
Devon Bostick, Daniel Henshall, Shirley Henderson, Giancarlo Esposito and Jake
Gyllenhaal. Okja is available to
stream on Netflix starting June 28th.
