Daveed
Diggs has had a pretty tremendous jump from Broadway star to TV star in the
recent year or so. After starring alongside Lin-Manuel Miranda in the smash
hit, Hamilton, Diggs has appeared in
multiple television programs but he’s now received a starring role in an
upcoming show for TNT. According to EW, Diggs will star in Snowpiercer based on the sci-fi film directed by Bong Joon-ho.
For
any who haven’t seen the original film (and please do because its fantastic), Snowpiercer takes place in a second Ice
Age that is triggered by the world’s attempt to combat global warming. The
survivors now live on a constantly moving train that’s divided by classism with
the rich people living in the front of the train and the poor people living in
the back.
Diggs
will star as Layton Well, “a prisoner who is barely surviving the harsh
conditions in the tail end of the train. A quiet thinker who spends his days
sniffing the industrial-waste-turned-drug Chronole and tending to his cage full
of rats, Layton becomes a reluctant participant in a struggle that could upend
life on the train.” It seems like TNT is using the setting but creating a new
type of storyline that could last multiple seasons so I’m totally game for
this. Also, Scott Derrickson (Doctor
Strange, Sinister) will be directing the pilot and serve as executive
producer alongside Bong Joon-ho which boosts my excitement to a whole other level.
Diggs
can currently be seen on TV for roles on Netflix’s The Get Down and ABC’s black-ish.
He also has an upcoming role in Unbreakable
Kimmy Schmidt and will also play Mr. Browne in Wonder, starring Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson and Jacob Tremblay.
