One
of the most discussed movies in development that we’ve talked about here on
Cinema Wave is J.C. Chandor’s (Margin
Call, A Most Violent Year) upcoming film, Triple Frontier. The movie originally had Tom Hardy, Channing Tatum
and recent Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali attached to star in the drug war drama
but a recent rewrite led to the exits of Hardy and Tatum and Paramount Pictures
dropped the project. According to Deadline,
several suitors have had conversations with the producers but it seems that
Netflix has stepped in once again to scoop up the movie.
Netflix
is prepared to offer those same lead roles left by Hardy and Tatum to Ben and
Casey Affleck. If they do sign onto the project, it would be the first movie
they’ve co-starred in since 200
Cigarettes back in 1999. Mahershala Ali is still attached to the movie. I
was a huge fan of this movie when it was first announced and though Tatum and
Hardy are two of my favorite current actors working today, Ben Affleck has stepped
up his acting game recently and Casey is coming off of an Oscar win himself for
Manchester by the Sea, which was my
favorite performance of 2016.
Netflix
would like to begin production later this year if they can acquire the movie. Ben
Affleck has a bit of an opening to make it work with Justice League already wrapped and The Batman not filming until 2018 as Reeves is focusing on the
marketing and post-production on War for
the Planet of the Apes first. Casey Affleck on the other hand, will be seen
soon in David Lowery’s A Ghost Story
which opens this summer.
How
do you guys feel about Triple Frontier
with the Afflecks instead of Tom Hardy and Channing Tatum? Would you be excited
to see both Oscar winners from last year in Affleck and Ali on screen together?
