With
all the amazing television around today in this new “Peak TV” era, it’s hard to
get around to watching them all. One that I still regrettably haven’t gotten
around to is the Netflix drama, The Crown.
The show won plenty of awards this past awards season and mostly for its
acting. One of the stars is now in talks for a high-profile role as Claire Foy
is in early discussions to portray Lisbeth Salander in the upcoming, The Girl in the Spider’s Web, per Variety.
This
could be a huge get for Sony as Foy is also being coveted for a role in
Oscar-winning director Damien Chazelle’s latest film, First Man starring Ryan Gosling. In both cases, no actual offers
have been given to Foy but with both being rumored, it’s for certain that we
could be seeing a bidding war for the actress’s services between Sony and
Universal. Foy, who portrays Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown, would replace Rooney Mara in the role, for which Mara
was nominated for her first Academy Award for her turn as the rogue hacker from
the David Lagercrantz novels. Sony will now look to replace Daniel Craig, who
played the male lead, Mikael Blomkvist in the 2011 remake, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
Foy
is currently shooting the second season for The
Crown but also is beginning her ascension to the top of Hollywood with an
upcoming role in Andy Serkis’ directorial debut, Breathe which also stars Andrew Garfield. The Girl in the Spider’s Web is set for an October 19th,
2018 release and will be directed by Don’t
Breathe helmer, Fede Alvarez.
How
do you guys feel about Claire Foy as Lisbeth Salander? Can she make the jump
from royalty to the iconic character from Lagercrantz’s best-selling novels?
