Scripted
television has become the norm for many television networks now. Networks that
you would’ve never believed getting into the game like USA Network, National
Geographic and Lifetime have produced awards-worthy shows for their respective
networks. Now, Paramount Network, which is replacing Spike TV has greenlight its
first scripted series with a hell of a name behind it. According to Deadline, Oscar-nominated
screenwriter, Taylor Sheridan (Hell or
High Water, Sicario) will write and direct the show titled Yellowstone which has been given a
10-episode order.
The
new network from Viacom will launch at the beginning of 2018 with an inaugural
slate that will include original comedies, American
Woman and Heathers as well as Waco, a western miniseries that is set
to star Michael Shannon, Melissa Benoist and Taylor Kitsch. Yellowstone will join the trio of shows
and is the first series actually bought for Paramount Network. The show will
follow the Dutton family, led by John Dutton, who controls the largest
contiguous ranch in the US and is constantly being attacked from all angles due
to its worth. It sounds like a show that is right up Sheridan’s alley as he’s
no stranger to developing dramas in the south as he did with both Hell or High Water and Sicario.
Sheridan
has seamlessly transitioned from actor to screenwriter and now to director as
his directorial debut, Wind River
debuted at Sundance back in January. That film stars Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth
Olsen and Jon Bernthal and hits theaters worldwide on August 4th. Be
sure to check back once we get any casting announcements for Yellowstone moving forward!
