Coming
off of the amazing success that Marvel Studios has had with their Marvel
Cinematic Universe, many other studios have tried creating shared universes for
different film franchises. Universal doesn’t own any superhero properties so
they’ve decided to create their own “Monster” universe which they’ve now
revealed will be called Dark Universe and have released a promotional video and
images for the films going forward.
The
Dark Universe is set to jumpstart in just a few weeks with The Mummy that stars Tom Cruise (Nick Morton), Sofia Boutella (The
Mummy) and Russell Crowe (Dr. Jekyll), who also appear in the actor’s photo
below. They’re seen in the studio shoot photo below with Javier Bardem
(Frankenstein) and Johnny Depp (The Invisible Man) who have all been cast
within this quickly expanding universe. Following the remake of The Mummy will be the remake The Bride of Frankenstein that will be
directed by Bill Condon (Beauty and the
Beast, Dreamgirls) and hit
cinemas on February 14th, 2019.
The
video that the studio released just a couple of days ago presents clips from
all the original versions of the films that will be remade for the universe and
I have to say, even though I’m not a huge horror fan, this looks great. The more
I see from The Mummy, the more
impressed I am so I think these iconic monsters being seen on screen yet again
is a great move for Universal. Alex Kurtzman, Chris Morgan, Christopher
McQuarrie and David Koepp are set to be the creative braintrust for this Dark
Universe moving forward.
Check
out the photo of Cruise, Boutella, Crowe, Bardem and Depp below. Also, the
sizzle reel can be seen below as well. Are you guys excited for the new Dark
Universe? Will you be seeing The Mummy
on June 8th? Sound off in the comments and let us know !
