There
are not more coveted jobs in Hollywood to covet as a director than being able
to helm a James Bond film and with Sam Mendes directing the last two efforts in
the canon (Skyfall, Spectre) it seems
that there is a new director in the running to direct the 25th Bond
film. According to Indiewire,
Paul McGuigan (Lucky Number Slevin, Push)
is in contention for the job.
The
director’s resume has a number of feature films attached but his recent work in
television especially with the BBC series, Sherlock
caught producers’ Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli’s attention. He’s also
directed a couple of episodes for Luke
Cage as well as the pilot for Designated
Survivor before he had a bit of a miss with his latest feature, Victor Frankenstein. It seems like a bit
of a step down for the franchise but maybe they’re trying to have a fresh set
of eyes for the franchise. The latest Bond movie is currently in a bidding war
between studios so it’s still rather early so we’ll keep our eyes on this for
now.
What
do you guys think of McGuigan directing Bond 25? Do you think he’s the right
choice or do you wish for Sam Mendes to return? If neither, who’s your choice
to anchor the historic action film franchise? Comment below and let us know.
