The
long-in-development movie adaptation of the video game series, Uncharted has finally found its lead.
After years of actors like Mark Wahlberg, Bradley Cooper and Chris Pratt being
thrown into the mix for Nathan Drake but it seems that the studio is going the
younger route as Spidey himself, Tom Holland has been cast as the lead, per The
Playlist.
For
those who are fans of the video game franchise and are scratching your head,
you’re not alone. The original names that were sought are former Oscar
nominated actors and box office draws in their 30s and 40s while Holland is a relatively
new name who is about to be 21 years old and doesn’t fit the Nathan Drake mold.
The studio did further their choice by saying that the movie will follow the
youthful adventures of the treasure hunter and Shawn Levy (Real Steel, Night at the Museum). As a huge fan of the video game
series, this comes as a disappointing turn of events. When it was announced
that Uncharted would be getting the
movie treatment, many were excited who would be cast as Nathan Drake, the
middle-aged, rambunctious adventurer along the same type as Indiana Jones but
with Holland playing a younger version of the character, it seems like they’re
doing a prequel that no one wants to see.
Holland
recently starred in James Gray’s The Lost
City of Z alongside Charlie Hunnam. He’ll be seen next reprising his role
as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the MCU for Spider-Man:
Homecoming. What do you guys think of Holland being cast as Nathan Drake?
