Johnny
Depp is as busy as he was in the 1990’s with his recent slate that features
plenty of projects to be excited about and he’s just added another film to his
schedule. According to Variety,
Depp will star in King of the Jungle,
a dark comedy directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (Crazy, Stupid, Love, Focus).
The
film is based on a true story that was published in Wired magazine, written by
Joshua Davis titled, “John McAfee’s Last Stand.” King of the Jungle will essentially be follow McAfee’s life as a
tech tycoon who created the McAfee Antivirus software, cashed in his fortune
and then moved to live in the jungle in Belize. Apparently, after doing this he
set up his own fortress of guns, sex and madness. A Wired magazine investigator
“accepts his assignment” and goes to interview McAfee before being pulled into
the madness himself. This sounds like a role that is perfect for Depp
showcasing how McAfee slipped out of reality once landing in Belize.
Depp
is set to appear on screens next week in Pirates
of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales reprising his beloved role as
Captain Jack Sparrow. He’ll also be seen later this year in Kenneth Branagh’s
remake of Murder on the Orient Express
and the crime film, LAbyrinth based
on the investigations of the murders of legendary rappers Tupac Shakur and
Notorious B.I.G. He’s also set to appear in the Monsters Universe set up at
Universal in The Invisible Man.
