Bradley
Cooper’s choice for his first undertaking as a director was already suspicious
as he chose a remake of A Star is Born.
Then, he cast Lady Gaga as the lead but now, things are going to get even more
strange. According to Deadline,
Andrew Dice Clay has been cast in the film as Lady Gaga’s “very Italian” father
in a role that many are saying can steal the movie.
A Star is Born follows a singer, who
will be played by Lady Gaga who falls in love with an aging rocker, played by
Cooper, who launches her career into orbit as his fame and popularity fades
away. The original film was released in 1937 and two remakes followed in 1954
and 1976. The most recent iteration starred Barbra Streisand and Kris
Kristofferson, who had great chemistry, now we’ll see the kind of chemistry that
Cooper and Gaga have as the latter undertakes her first major feature film
role. The most recent version of the script was written by Eric Roth (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Forrest
Gump) and Clay joins another recent cast member, Sam Elliot, who will play
Bobby and manages both stars in the careers as well as their personal lives.
Clay
is best known for being a raunchy, stand-up comedian but has been involved in
much more TV work recently. He has his own show on Showtime, Dice that is in production for Season 2
currently. He also had roles on HBO shows, Vinyl
and Entourage; but is no stranger to
film work as just four years ago, Clay had a role in the Woody Allen movie, Blue Jasmine. I’m not a huge fan of Clay
but in a role like this, I believe he could thrive. A Star is Born is currently scheduled to open in theaters on
September 28th, 2018.
