It
seems that despite another year of video game movie adaptation failures in 2016
with Warcraft and Assassin’s Creed, studios still want to
give these films a try. Jason Momoa and Brad Peyton (San Andreas, Rampage) will work together to bring an adaptation of Just Cause to the big screen, per Collider.
Just Cause is an action/adventure video
game that was originally brought to light in 2006 that was an open-world game
that had players controlling the covert operative named Rico Rodriguez, who
will be played by Momoa in the film. Rodriguez is dropped into a Caribbean island
that is ruled by a dictator searching for allies to help him destabilize the
island and take down the evil regime. With Momoa already working his way to
leading blockbusters as Aquaman in the DCEU and Peyton directing bigger tentpole
movies such as San Andreas and the upcoming Rampage
adaptation with Dwayne Johnson and Naomie Harris, it seems this is a perfect
pairing for a video game movie.
Momoa
can be seen currently in the Netflix series, Frontier (which was also directed by Peyton). He’ll be seen next in
Justice League for the DCEU teaming
up with Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash and Cyborg on November 17th.
