Andrew
Garfield had himself a phenomenal 2016 not only starring in a film for the
legendary Martin Scorsese but also garnering an Oscar nomination for his
portrayal as Desmond Doss in Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw
Ridge. With his foot continuing to stay on the gas with a number of other
projects lined up, he’s signed on to yet another. According to The
Playlist, Garfield is set to star in Black
Lion.
Black Lion currently doesn’t have a
director attached but Alessandro Camon (The
Messenger, Bullet to the Head) is set to write the script. The film follows
Carlos Mavroleon, a Harvard educated heir to an English/Greek shipping empire
who left his life on Wall Street to become a war reporter. The true story will
be framed around his final assignment for 60 minutes in which he snuck into
Afghan tribal territories just days after President Clinton’s 1998 missile
strikes against Osama Bin Laden’s camps. Mavroleon was actually one of the
first to discover the link between Pakistan and Al Qaida. Unfortunately, just
days later, he was found dead in his motel room under circumstances that are
still not known to this day. This sounds like a great role for Garfield that
can garner him even more awards buzz as he continues to pick diverse roles to
add to his expanding filmography.
Garfield
has two incredibly intriguing projects set for this year already as he’ll star
in Andy Serkis’ directorial debut, Breathe.
He’ll also star in David Robert Mitchell’s follow-up to It Follows titled, Under the
Silver Lake.
